Now this was at one time a pub that I would recommend to anyone, that was until the pub had new owners.
Many a great night was had in this pub, but since last year, I have sworn never to visit the place again, but have kept given it 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th chances only to be let down time and time again.
The steak there used to be ina class of its own, the service too. But inthe past year, the place has really gone down hill, yes they have a little more modern furniture in the one seating area, but this does not mean that I as a customer have to accept terrible food and staff service.
back at the end of last year 3 times I had to send my steak back to the kitchen as it was dripping with blood, and 3 times the steak, sauce and salad was returned to me steaming hot, (from a microwave maybe). Now it is not too often that myself and my wife can get away for the odd night out and when I have had to return my steak for the 3rd time on a Friday evening and still not being happy with it and then the time is past 10.30pm, it seems a little bit of a waste of my time, my money and my effort.
We let that one go.
But then when we visited one of many of their websites and saw the stunning modern new rooms that they had re-decorated, we thought well, we can always eat somewhere else, (we werent risking that again). On arrival we ate a small afternoon lunch in their beer garden, we then returned to the bar to get out key, the barlady took us to our room and we were gutted. When we telephoned to book the newly refurbished room we were told that if we cancelled or did not turn up for the room, we would be charged £10 each.
Well, well, well. The double room that we had booked was actually a twin room, and a very small twin at that, with no bath just a small pokey shower, 2 single beds, and not enough room to swing your hair, nevermind a cat.
When we said that we had booked a double room, we were told that they woudl push the 2 sinlge beds together.
Well we went and booked in the Kingshead, for a fraction of the price, we had a huge room, with a kingsize bed and a single bed, flat a huge tv, shower and bath and the food, staff, everything was amazing.
We paid £60 for our brilliant room in the Kingshead and the cheek that the Croskeys were asking was £70.
If you do venture for a night away in Usk, DO NOT BOOK AT THE CROSSKEYS, because when you REFUSE the room, (which I am sre you will, unless you are looking for workmens digs) they wil still try to charge you £10 per person.
There.... you have been warned, and I feel better for it too. Thanks
